As many of us already know, our planet is going through the ecological crisis, and it’s our job to make a difference right here and right now.
We come up with the idea to make our product out of already used plastic bottles and give it a second life, new meaning.
It's called Recycled polyester or RPET.
Polyethylene terephthalate is one of the most common plastics in the world and you are familiar with it. It is used in many areas, but mainly in the production of plastic bottles and containers.
You will often notice the PET label on plastic bottles. It means it is 100% recyclable. And RPET is the result of such a process.
Recycled polyester (like its virgin counterpart) is very versatile and can take many different senses and functions. Recycled polyester can be used to make everything from thin and light elastic ethical sportswear to thick and fluffy eco-friendly fabric for backpacks. |
The process of recycling plastics into textiles is as follows: |
|
● Collection of PET waste |
|
● The plastic is then sorted, cleaned, and split into small pellets/flakes. |
|
● The flakes are then melted down into fine filaments. |
|
● And then polyester is produced from these filaments |
Characteristics of RPET material:
● No new resources of our Earth are used to produce this material. ● Producing fabric from recycled plastic is 75% more energy efficient, 40% less CO2, and 90% more water efficient than from virgin raw materials; ● Reducing the amount of rubbish in landfills;
Polyester as a material is particularly relevant in the production of bags and backpacks due to its properties and advantages. ● It is a durable and long-lasting material; ● it holds its shape well and is very resistant to creasing; ● It is light-weight; ● no linting; Non-marking; ● water resistant; ● Fast-drying. |
